This new waste treatment plant based in Horsham West Sussex is Biffa’s flagship MBT plant, Mechanical Biological Treatment.
Waste is handled by combination of sorting and treatment methods.
Having separated out recyclables such as metals the remaining waste is treated resulting in two main outputs, these are RDF Refuse Derived Fuel and Digestate a compost type material.
Any odorous output from the plant is treated prior to being exhausted into the atmosphere to reduce any environmental impact.
The result of this advanced waste treatment is that only a small percentage of incoming waste goes to landfill sites.
The facility has the capacity to treat in the region of seven million tonnes of black bag waste over its lifetime..
